Let’s Get Physical

Physical Exfoliants

Exfoliation resurfaces, smooths, and revitalizes your skin.

Exfoliation breaks up areas of discoloration for a brighter complexion.

Exfoliated skin provides a clear pathway for moisturizers & serums to penetrate, absorb and perform their function.

After exfoliating, makeup applies seamlessly and looks more natural.

Exfoliation is the removal of dry, dead skin cells from any surface of your body.

Your skin naturally sheds dead skin cells bringing new, hydrated cells to the surface. As we age the cellular turnover process slows down. This is why the exfoliating process is so important.

There are 3 different ways to exfoliate your skin: Physical, Enzymatic, or Chemical. The correct exfoliator will help smooth skin’s texture, brighten and refine your complexion. There are different factors that go into deciding which formula/product will be best for your skin type or condition.

Physical exfoliators use small granules or bristles (brushes or cleansing mitts) to manually polish away dead skin cells from the epidermis. There are many brands out there that use harsh ingredients that may irritate the skin. Based on current technology, physical exfoliants are gentle and are suitable for sensitive skin types. We encourage clients to be progressive and educate themselves on ingredients used in skincare.

At Cloud 9 Skin Wellness we offer clients different options depending on skincare concerns and conditions.

Here are some of our favorites retail exfoliants available at the spa:

Dermalogica’s Daily Microfoliant A rice-based powder that activates with water, releasing rice enzymes, papain, and salicylic acid to polish the skin. We recommend this product to clients with skin acne.

glo Skin Beauty’s Daily Polishing Cleanser Exfoliates and cleanses using a unique powder formula with environmentally-friendly Jojoba Beads. This product is gentle enough for dry and sensitive skin.

Nelly Devuyst’s Organic Bio Tense A daily *gommage polishing formula paste of enzymes and clay that gently exfoliates the skin. The paste is applied to the skin, allowing it to dry for a few minutes, then massaged away. This is a super multi-purpose exfoliant. Great for normal-oily skin types; plus effective for acne because of the clay base.

*Gommage is a method of gentle exfoliation in which manual enzymatic exfoliation is combined in order to slough away dead skin and other debris from the surface of the skin.
